signed and dated Dec 1943; label on the backboard: 'Sam's Boots - part of Hereford Art School was used for cleaning rifles after the Dunkirk incident and Sam was one of the soldiers detailed for this work. He left these boots behind him: they had previously been hundreds of miles through Belgium and returned home via Dunkirk.'

Condition:

Restored in 2003 with some retouching, signature and date strengthened and revarnished
